2022: A Year of Pro-Life Victories and New Opportunities

At the end of each year, we reflect on the abundance of blessings we have received. I think we can all agree that 2022 has been a historic whirlwind of a year and we are looking forward to the possibilities that 2023 holds for the protection of the most vulnerable, the child in the womb.

Here is a brief recap:

As we kicked off 2022, we hoped against hope for a historic victory for the pro-life movement. The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case was heard at the Supreme Court last December, with the justices considering the possible overturn of the wrongfully decided Roe v. Wade case.

We prayed and waited for the decision to be issued and on June 24 (the birthday of March for Life founder, Nellie Gray!), we joyously saw the Supreme Court return the power back to the American people to protect the unborn through their elected representatives.

In the days that followed, we worked overtime to educate Americans on the truth about post-Roe America online and in media outlets such as NBC, FOX, CBS, CNN, EWTN, to name a few.

Before and after the Dobbs decision, we also continued working with partners in the states as we grew our State March Program. 2022 included five State Marches—Virginia, Pennsylvania, California, Ohio, and Connecticut.

In the first-ever State March for Life in a post-Roe America, nearly 6,000 Pennsylvanians Marched for Life in Harrisburg, PA on September 19. We also far outnumbered a counter rally held the next day, but even more importantly our Marchers outpaced the pro-abortion rally with love, joy and enthusiasm!

Check out the comparison photo below!

As we look ahead to 2023, with the new freedom states have to enact good policies, we plan to redouble our efforts and quickly grow our state marches!

Another highlight was mobilizing our March for Life Action Advocacy Network throughout the year and across the country, to put pro-life citizens in direct communication with their legislators.

Each email or tweet our advocates sent to their lawmakers made a difference in protecting the unborn—totaling nearly ONE MILLION messages sent over the last couple of years!

Through the Advocacy Network, pro-life citizens are able to “march” virtually all year-round by making their voice heard on protecting the inherent dignity of the unborn child and his/her mother.

In the past few months we have turned our focus to planning the National March on January 20, 2023, where we will be taking the “Next Steps” and “Marching into a Post-Roe America” (our theme for this year’s March for Life)!

This will be the 50th annual March for Life, the first Post-RoeNational March. We plan to celebrate, give thanks and remember those who have gone before us who led the way to this historic moment in time, and to map out a path forward!

In large part because of your witness as Marchers, your prayers, and your financial support, we at the March for Life are able to give heartfelt thanks for a beautiful and fruitful year, and we look forward for things to come! With the 50th annual March for Life just a few weeks away, we are confident that this year will be the most historic yet. Stay tuned!

Happy New Year from all of us at the March for Life!

Tips for the 2023 March for Life

In just a few weeks, pro-life advocates from across the country will travel to Washington DC to celebrate the gift of life and march against the greatest human rights abuse of our time – abortion. As you make your preparations for the 2023 March for Life, here’s a list of tips to help you take a stand for life!

Be Prepared for Cold Weather

The streets of Washington, D.C. can be chilly in January. Check the weather forecast before you leave, but bring your warmest winter coat, no matter what! Wear layers – you can add or remove layers depending on the temperature and bring hand warmers, gloves, a hat, and waterproof boots.

Stay Connected with Your Group Members

The crowds are very large at the March for Life, so try to stay physically connected to your group as much as possible. Make sure everyone has at least one leader’s cell phone number, and inform everyone of the time and meeting place after the March is finished. Give everyone a map of the March for Life route, which you can download HERE.

Know Your Transportation Options

If you’re with a large group with planned transport, make sure everyone is informed of the meeting and pick-up locations. If you’re traveling with a small group, we recommend using public transportation. Check out the March for Life website for more travel information and tips for DC public transportation.

Check Out Other Events Throughout the Week

Make the most out of your trip to Washington DC by participating in all the pro-life events surrounding the March for Life. Find related events on the March for Life website:

Bring Signs

Be creative and let the world know why we march! Check out some of our favorite signs on Instagram for some inspiration. Even if you forget or can’t bring signs, many groups will have signs to hand out on the National Mall.

Share Your Experience

It’s important to show why we march!
During the March for Life, post pictures and videos of your experience and tag them with #WhyWeMarch and #MarchForLife! We’ll be sharing our favorite posts on social media and on WhyWeMarch.org!

Show Your Representative that You VOTE for Life

Traveling to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life gives the pro-life movement a unique opportunity to let our nation’s leaders know America is proudly pro-life! After the March for Life, consider visiting your representative’s office to be a voice for the unborn. Before visiting, be sure to read the official March for Life Action lobbying booklet, Capitol Hill 101.

Thank the Amazing Volunteers

The March for Life would not be possible if not for the dozens of volunteers who give their time, talents, and service to building a culture of life. We are especially grateful for the continued support and service of the Knights of Columbus. If you pass by one of our amazing volunteers, please give them a big thank you!

Introducing the 2023 March for Life Speakers!

On January 20th, we will celebrate the 50th annual March for Life and the momentous overturn of Roe v. Wade! We will honor those who have gone before us making this historic victory possible, and we will present the strategic plan for building a culture of life in this moment in time.

Vital to our strategic “Next Steps” is continuing to boldly march each year in Washington, DC, now that the power to protect the unborn has returned to the American people through their elected representatives.

This year, rather than marching to the steps of the Supreme Court, where we have for decades asked our highest Court’s Justices to undo the destructive decision that was Roe v. Wade, we will now march to a new front in our battle for life, the steps of the United States Capitol.

If you were not able to attend our Theme Reveal Briefing, you can access the recording below.

We put together this inspiring video to learn more about why we chose this message to accompany this historic moment for the pro-life movement. We hope it leaves you motivated to join us in January!

  • Next Steps: Marching into a Post-Roe America

Second, we announced some of our wonderful special guests for this year’s March for Life Rally. We are delighted to announce that Coach Tony Dungy will be joining us, a Pro-Football Hall of Famer and a New York Times best-selling author.

Also joining us on the March for Life stage will be actor, director, producer and voice-over artist, Jonathan Roumie, who is best known for his award-winning role as ‘Jesus’ in the groundbreaking series, THE CHOSEN, a drama about the life of Jesus Christ.

And, back by popular demand, the Dove-nominated and K-LOVE Award-winning musical group, We Are Messengers, will be performing the pre-Rally concert.

Friend, it is hard to overstate the joy and excitement leading into this upcoming March for Life on January 20th. As you can see, we are working hard to put together a monumental event for you! Stay tuned for many more exciting updates to come in the weeks and months leading up to the 50th Annual March for Life.

Why we will continue to March for Life

With the wonderful blessing of Roe v. Wade being overturned, a goal we have marched for since 1974, some say there is no longer a need for the pro-life movement to gather for the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. The work to build a culture of life in the United States of America is far from finished, but they say we can now solely focus our work on advancing our cause in the states.

Such confusion could not be further from the truth! As we unveil our historic 2023 March for Life theme which will guide us towards our 50th anniversary and through our first post-Roe march, we seek to inspire clarity and enthusiasm among all pro-life people in this critical next phase of building a culture of life.

On January 20, we will celebrate the 50th annual March for Life and the momentous overturn of Roe v.

We must tirelessly build a culture of life on Capitol Hill, and advocate for the advancement of federal pro-life policies. But it doesn’t end there: we must also march in our state capitols, urging our state legislators to pass life-saving protections for the unborn. Last, we must continue to increase the safety net for moms and babies, especially by supporting pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes in our communities that provide love, compassion, and resources to women, children, and families.

Those who have been paying attention know that the battle at the federal level has only intensified since the historic Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision. Already, pro-abortion politicians in the U.S. House and Senate have voted in favor of the most radical expansion of abortion in American history, a bill deceptively named the Women’s Health Protection Act. If passed, this extreme bill would nullify existing pro-life state laws, prevent the passage of future state laws that protect the unborn, and force taxpayers to pay for abortions nationwide — up until birth. Going beyond Roe, it would eliminate parental-consent laws. We can’t afford to abandon the fight at the federal level now.

Neither can we leave hard-fought victories like the Hyde Amendment vulnerable to attack. Hyde is in the crosshairs of pro-abortion politicians and has been for a long time. This long-standing policy limits government funding for abortion on annual appropriation bills, protects taxpayers and saves lives. In fact, it has been estimated to have saved more than 2.4 million lives since its adoption in 1976 and is arguably the most impactful pro-life policy in our nation’s history. It should not be taken for granted.

This is by no means meant to distract us from our efforts in the states, but we must realize that the fall of Roe means the battle for life must be fought on two fronts now: state and federal.

We are rapidly expanding our state march program to meet this need. And the enthusiasm at the state level is high now that the people once again have a say in laws protecting the unborn. Last week we had more than 4000 gather in Columbus, Ohio for the first annual Ohio March for Life and last month we saw more than 5,500 pro-life Pennsylvanians gather in Harrisburg to attend the first state march since the Dobbs decision came down. We at the March for Life plan to be in all 50 states soon because we, more than anyone I dare say, understand the power of unified, joyful masses of pro-life marchers who, year in and year out, send a loud and clear message to legislators: Protect life!

Maternity Homes and Pregnancy Care Centers are also critical to this next phase in pro-life work. Pro-life pregnancy centers provide assistance such as education, support services and essential medical care to over 2 million people every year, offering millions of dollars-worth in medical, education and support resources. Maternity homes provide shelter and support for the first several years of the baby’s life.

Pregnancy resource centers have saved more than 800,000 lives since 2016 and are favored by the vast majority of Americans. Despite the many violent attacks leveled at these centers since the beginning of May when the Dobbs decision was leaked, everything they do is driven by love for the women who walk through their doors and a deep desire to see them realize their dreams without sacrificing their children.

As we lean into our ‘Next Steps,’ and continued marching both in DC and in the states, we will build up a culture of life and be a bright light to our world. Yes, there is still so much work to be done, but we are encouraged by the fruits of our labors so far. Thanks to the incredible dedication and passion that you, our marchers, have shown throughout the years, we are emboldened to take these next steps in carrying out our mission to promote the beauty and dignity of every human life by working for an end to abortion.

Women’s Equality Begins in the Womb

Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today we honor all of the women who have raised us, have gone before us, have worked alongside us, and have encouraged us along the way. As a women-led organization at the forefront of a woman-filled pro-life movement, we are constantly in awe of what passionate women can achieve.

At the March for Life, we also know that Equality Begins in the Womb, as last year’s March for Life theme proudly stated. At a time when equality is at the forefront of the national discussion, unborn children in the womb are often left out of the debate.

The littlest ones—including the littlest women—are overlooked simply because they cannot speak for themselves. Knowing this grave injustice, the important role of defending the unborn and confirming their humanity falls to us.

This Women’s Equality Day, join us in fighting for the equality of all women—especially the millions of women killed in the womb each year. Let us fight for their protection by supporting women facing unexpected pregnancies, donating to pregnancy resource centers, or volunteering our time to mothers in need.

Friend, equality is not a concept that only applies to certain groups of people. Equality belongs to everyone and it begins in the womb.

Today, kindly join me in a prayer of gratitude for the many wonderful women in our lives!
