March for Life Files Amicus Curiae Preceding Dobbs Supreme Court Case

Prompted by the Supreme Court’s tragic decision in Roe v. Wade, March for Life was founded to promote the beauty and dignity of every human life by working to make abortion unthinkable. It’s time to change our nation’s chaotic abortion jurisprudence, so that our laws are allowed to catch up with the science and reflect basic compassion. The science today shows that the humanity of a 15-week-old child in the womb is undeniable. Children at that stage have fully formed noses and lips, eyelids and eyebrows; they can suck their thumb, and even feel pain.”

March for Life Statement on AG Fitch Supreme Court Brief Regarding Dobbs

As today’s brief makes clear, updating America’s abortion jurisprudence is necessary and long overdue. The law at issue before the Supreme Court concerns moderate limits on the abortion of a child who has developed past 15 weeks, with a fully formed nose and lips, eyelids and eyebrows – when her humanity is beyond debate. Limiting gruesome late term abortions is compassionate and popular; and the norm in countries that have allowed their laws to catch up with the science. Sadly, right now, the United States is one of only seven countries – including North Korea and China – that allow elective abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.”

Third Annual Virginia March for Life

March for Life partnered with The Family Foundation will host the 2021 Virginia March for Life in September

Pro-life Virginians to gather and highlight the fundamental rights of the unborn

RICHMOND, VA – March for Life has partnered with the Family Foundation to organize the Virginia March for Life on Friday, September 17, 2021, happening in Richmond, VA. Ahead of the November statewide elections, marchers will make their voices heard at the steps of the state capitol on behalf of unborn children.

“We look forward to coming together to highlight the cause of life in Virginia where there are far too few protections for the unborn,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life Defense and Education Fund. Virginia state law currently allows abortion for virtually any reason through all nine months of pregnancy. “This march will give pro-life Virginians the opportunity to be heard and demand respect for the rights of these children,” Mancini continued. “Every human life should be valued and deserves legal protection.”

Victoria Cobb, President of the Family Foundation said, “We are thrilled to announce our 3rd annual March for Life. While our Commonwealth has been working through the difficulties of a pandemic, the abortion industry has been launching tele-services, increasing abortion volume later and later in pregnancy and receiving more money than ever before from our taxpayers. It’s time for Virginians to take a stand.”

The third annual Virginia March for Life will start with a rally at the State Capitol at 12:00 p.m. ET, followed by a march at 1:00 p.m. ET. More details, including a list of speakers, to be announced soon.

The Tide is Shifting Toward Life

We will not rest until the day that abortion is unthinkable.

Pro-abortion radicals may control Washington, but the story on the ground all over the country is entirely different. Pro-life advocates are making unprecedented progress at the state level, and we are standing up to federal overreach by the Biden administration. The pro-life movement is undeterred, and we are winning.

Republican legislatures and governors are passing pro-life legislation, former president Trump’s judicial appointments are upholding pro-life laws, and the American public is with us.

Even our opponents admit that we are making massive gains at the state level; as the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute argues, “2021 is on track to become the most devastating antiabortion state legislative session in decades.” According to the Institute’s analysis, 536 abortion restrictions have been proposed, and 61 have been passed across 13 states as pro-life legislators win victory after victory.

The enacted bills vary widely, but all of them work to protect life. In Idaho and Oklahoma, legislatures passed a bill banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, while Montana banned abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Several states have been working to restrict dangerous mail-order abortion pills, and, in Arizona, the legislature prohibited abortions targeting babies with genetic abnormalities such as Down syndrome.

These laws stand as a critical marker of the progress we are making. Even the Guttmacher Institute says that 2021 “is well on its way to being a defining one in abortion rights history.”

Our years of effort are bearing fruit, as state after state is enacting life-saving legislation. The energy behind these efforts comes from grassroots activists at the state level. These men and women lead the charge, testifying before state legislatures about the harmful impacts of abortion in their communities, and marching for life.

Pro-life laws today also have a much higher chance of remaining in effect thanks to President Trump’s judicial appointments. While in office, the former president appointed over 230 federal judges and three Supreme Court justices. These judges are strong constitutionalists who will rule for what is right before the law, not what is culturally and politically expedient.

Pro-life advocates have been encouraged to see that an Ohio law protecting babies who have received a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome from abortion was recently upheld at the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Its next stop could well be the Supreme Court. But in the meantime, the high court has agreed to hear a dispute over a Mississippi law that would limit abortions to the first 15 weeks of pregnancy. Pro-life Americans are hopeful that this compassionate law, too, will ultimately be upheld.

In addition to the legislative and legal shift toward life, there is also consistent public support for abortion restrictions. Poll after poll shows this to be the case, with 58 percent of Americans supporting the Hyde amendment (which protects the American taxpayer from funding abortions domestically), and 76 percent are in favor of restricting abortion to — at most — the first three months of pregnancy.

Americans realize that the Left’s abortion policy has gone too far. In reality, the Left is out of step with most of the country, focused instead on catering to its own base while losing the average voter. Pro-life Americans, meanwhile, continue to make crucial progress on the state level, in the courthouse, and with the public. We have already seen many important victories in 2021, and we look forward to those yet to come. But we will not rest until the day that abortion is unthinkable.

First Annual California March for Life

March for Life Partnered with the California Family Council Announces

2021 California March for Life

First ever official California March for Life to take place in Sacramento on August 25, 2021

SACRAMENTO, CA – March for Life is honored to partner with the California Family Council to organize the first ever official California March for Life on August 25, 2021 in Sacramento, California. Marchers will rally at the state capitol to call for an end to pro-abortion extremism in the state.

“We are delighted to partner with the California Family Council, a stellar pro-life organization in the state, to help plan and launch the first ever California March for Life. The march is an opportunity for California pro-lifers to unite and encourage state legislators to craft policies that respect the rights of the unborn,”  said Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life Defense and Education Fund. “Every human life has dignity, and our laws must reflect that.”

Jonathan Keller, President of California Family Council, said, “California claims to be the epicenter of the ‘progressive’ agenda, but when it comes to treating every human life with dignity and respect our Golden State has a tarnished record. That’s why California Family Council is thrilled to partner with our friends at the national March for Life to host a peaceful gathering on August 25 on the steps of the Capitol. We invite all people to join us in celebrating God’s gift of life from conception to its natural end. Let us all recommit ourselves to liberty and justice for all – born and unborn.”

The California March for Life will start with a rally at the State Capitol at 11:00 a.m. PT, followed by a march at 12:00 p.m. PT. More details, including a list of speakers, to be announced soon.
