March With Us
Nellie Gray, Pro-Life Hero
Nellie Gray (1924-2012), President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, passed away over the weekend at the age of 88. Nellie was a native of Big Spring, Texas. She served in World War II in the Women’s Army Corps. Nellie’s education included an undergraduate business degree, a master degree in economics, and ultimately a law degree from Georgetown Law Center. Nellie worked for more than twenty years for the U.S. Government in the Departments of State and Labor. After retiring from her federal career, Nellie played a key role in founding the March for Life in 1974, the peaceful prolife demonstration against abortion held every year on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. She soon emerged as the leader of the annual event, and as an outspoken, eloquent advocate for the most vulnerable members of our society, the preborn.
In addition to her heroic work for the March for Life, Nellie will be most remembered for her passionate stance that every life, born and preborn, aged and young, must be cherished and protected. No exception! No compromise!
Until the very last moment of her life, Nellie pressed for unity in the prolife movement. She firmly believed that not a single preborn life should be sacrificed for any reason, and urged all prolife organizations to adopt the March for Life’s signature statement, the Life Principles, as the guiding light for all participants in the noble cause to which she devoted her life.
Nellie has been a giant in the pro-life movement. As we approach the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Board of Directors will continue to honor Nellie’s memory by doing everything possible to protect every preborn human person, and to bring to an end the scourge of abortion in the United States.
Funeral arrangements are pending. In response to many inquiries from friends and supporters, the Board of Directors has established the Nellie Gray Legacy Fund to accept donations in lieu of flowers. Your memorial gift will allow us to continue Nellie’s work on behalf of our preborn brothers and sisters. Please click here to visit the donation page, and choose the Nellie Gray Legacy Fund option. We have also opened our Annual Report Messages link for anyone who would like to place a memorial message in the upcoming annual report. 2011 Rose Dinner
Michele Bachmann is the 2011 Rose Dinner Keynote Speaker
We are very pleased to announce that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-6) will be the keynote speaker at the 2011 Rose Dinner. The event will be held on January 24, 2011 in the Regency Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20001. The social hour will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by the Opening Prayer and Dinner at 7:00 PM.
Congresswoman Bachmann has distinguished herself as a pro-life leader in Congress, as attested to by her rating of 0 from the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). First elected in 2006, Congresswoman Bachmann has developed a reputation as a “principled reformer” who stays true to her conservative beliefs while pushing for real reform of the broken ways of Washington.
Congresswoman Bachmann is a graduate of Anoka High School and Winona State University. Bachmann and her husband, Marcus, live in Stillwater where they own a small business mental health care practice that employs 42 people. The Bachmanns have five children, Lucas, Harrison, Elisa, Caroline, and Sophia. In addition, the Bachmanns have opened their home to 23 foster children, which has inspired Congresswoman Bachmann to become one of Congress’ leading advocates for foster and adopted children, earning her bipartisan praise for her efforts.
The 29th annual Rose Dinner will be the culminating event of three days of pro-life activities in our nation’s capitol. It is held every year on the evening following the annual MARCH FOR LIFE. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Sounds of Liberty from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
