What Makes Your Mom Special?

May 10, 2021 By Ann Clare Levy

What Makes Your Mom Special?

Yesterday, we celebrated the amazing mothers in our lives. These women provide us with encouragement, support, guidance, and love. They have overcome challenges and made countless sacrifices to provide beautiful lives for us.

We asked our followers on social media what made their moms special, and the responses were powerful testimonies to the beautiful roles of motherhood.

Moms are HEROES

Moms are LIFE-GIVERS

Moms are SELFLESS

Moms are our source of STRENGTH

And SUPPORT

Moms, we know the role of motherhood is not always easy. One day on the calendar is not enough to celebrate all that you are. But we love you and we thank you so much for choosing life and choosing us!

Thank you, moms!

The Pro-Life Movement Has Much to Celebrate this Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a beautiful celebration of life and motherhood, and we in the pro-life movement should take this day as an opportunity to focus on how our movement supports mothers. A report by the Charlotte Lozier Institute powerfully quantifies the impact of pregnancy care centers across America by using data to demonstrate how these centers help women from all walks of life.

Those who serve at these centers care for women like Amber, who found out she was pregnant days after turning 21 while attending college. She initially scheduled an appointment with an abortion clinic but felt led in a different direction. Thankfully, she found the Hope Center, where she received a free ultrasound with her boyfriend, Brandon. The images of their child persuaded them to keep the baby, and the Hope Center helped guide them through a challenging process by making them feel loved and supported during every step of their journey.

Stories like Amber’s are the heart and the soul of the pro-life movement, as we are dedicated to supporting women and creating nourishing environments where families can thrive. We exist to provide women who feel broken and desperate with a place to turn in their hour of need.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands this, and some have even mistakenly characterized the pro-life movement as one solely focused on winning a political debate. Ross Douthat’s recent critique in the New York Times chided, “there is something to be said for a pro-life movement that talks less in the language of partisanship and proceduralism and sounds more like the utopian and not simply conservative cause that its logic ultimately requires it to be…the plausibility of [ending abortion nationwide] depends on whether the pro-life movement can prove — through very literal policy demonstrations, not just rhetoric — that it can protect and support the pregnant women who would no longer get abortions in the world that it desires.” We certainly agree that there is far more to ending abortion than winning a political debate, but it seems like Douthat fails to appreciate the vast amount of work already being done to create the utopia about which he writes.

Perhaps skeptics like Douthat underestimate the breadth and depth of the pro-life movement because it isn’t part of the everyday political discourse. Just because there isn’t breathless media coverage of pregnancy care centers doesn’t mean the close to 15,000 pro-life employees and over 50,000 pro-life volunteers aren’t making a profound impact, saving unrepeatable lives and helping women.

The Charlotte Lozier Institute report quantifies the impact of pregnancy care centers and serves as a powerful counterpoint to those who see the pro-life movement as primarily partisan. The 2,700 centers studied provided over $266 million in material assistance to pregnant women, whether through providing prenatal care, offering classes on parenting, administering STD tests, or giving women items like baby clothing.

Pro-life advocates served 1.85 million people in 2019, as we were able to walk with women while they grappled with life-changing choices. Pregnancy care centers embody a holistic approach to women’s health as they provide classes to adolescents, resources to pregnant women, and care and support for those who have undergone abortions. We believe every woman is valuable and special, and we will meet her where she is, whether that is six weeks pregnant or years after having an abortion.

One essential service these centers provide is free ultrasounds. In 2019, pregnancy care centers performed 486,213 ultrasounds that helped women learn if they were pregnant, if the baby had a heartbeat, and how far along the pregnancy was. Providing women with this information helps them better understand their pregnancy and see their baby as a unique human life.

Another area where the pro-life movement is making great strides is abortion pill reversal (APR). Women who choose chemical abortion often change their minds after having taken the first pill (Mifeprex) in the two-pill regimen. APR has been shown as a safe way to counteract the effects of Mifeprex. Since 2012, over 1,000 babies have been born after their mothers underwent APR and the practice continues to grow as it becomes better known and understood.

Tens of thousands of men and women are working across America to support pregnant women and provide them with the resources and care they deserve. This Mother’s Day, we should all take a moment to acknowledge how these pro-life heroes who have saved countless lives by acting as a lighthouse for women sailing through troubled waters.

A Growing Culture of Life

When Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and Guttmacher are on red alert, you know the pro-life movement is making major advances.

According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute – originally the research arm of Planned Parenthood – 2021 is on track to the most impactful year of pro-life legislation in decades.

Since January, 536 abortion regulations have been proposed across 46 states. In the words of Guttmacher, “A whopping 61 of those restrictions have been enacted across 13 states, including eight bans.”

This past week alone has been the single most productive week for pro-lifers in at least a decade. Between April 26 and April 29 alone, 28 pro-life bills were signed into law. Here are just a few of the newest pro-life victories:

 ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAWS

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed SB 1457 into law, banning abortions based on a prenatal diagnosis of genetic abnormality, including Down syndrome.

HEARTBEAT LAWS

Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed HB 366, also known as the Fetal Heartbeat Preborn Child Protection Act, into law on April 27. The law bans abortions after an unborn baby’s heart can be detected, usually around the 6-week mark.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt followed suit with HB 2441, with classifies a doctor performing an abortion after the heartbeat is detectable as “unprofessional conduct.”

PAIN–CAPABLE LAWS

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed HB 136, prohibiting abortions of babies capable of feeling pain. Other Montana laws include requiring a pregnant women be offered the option of viewing an ultrasound prior to an abortion and additional protective requirements surrounding chemical abortion.

This momentum shows a true desire for a post-Roe America, and we can’t let up. We’ve seen the powerful impact we can have on the local level, even during times of extreme opposition.

Faced with a radically pro-abortion Administration and Congress, we need to unite our voices for the unborn. While the states fight to preserve the rights of the unborn, the House is currently stripping survivors of abortion – newborn infants –  of access to medical care. At the same time, the Senate is seeking to redirect millions of COVID relief funds to the abortion lobby. We cannot let these injustices continue. We need YOUR voice!

March for Life Statement on Biden Administration’s Proposed Title X Rules

March for Life is strongly opposed to the Biden administration’s proposed Title X rules, which appear specifically designed to bring America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, back into the taxpayer-funded program and keep pro-life organizations out. These rules would mandate abortion referrals in violation of federal law and stand in direct opposition to the wishes of a majority of Americans who do not want their taxpayer dollars subsidizing the abortion industry. Abortion is neither healthcare nor family planning, and the Title X program should not be funding it.”

March for Life Statement on Biden Administration’s Removal of Medical Oversight of Abortion Pill

With this action, the Biden administration has made it clear that it will prioritize abortion over women’s safety. Allowing unsupervised chemical abortions via telemedicine, without requiring timely access to medical care, will put women in grave danger. Data released in 2018 by the FDA shows thousands of adverse events caused by abortion pills, including 768 hospitalizations and 24 deaths since 2000. Chemical abortions should have more medical oversight not less.”
