Consider Early Feminist’s Opposition to Abortion

This Women’s Equality Day, we would be wise to consider the words of the early feminists as we examine the progress we have made as women — and the obstacles we have yet to overcome.

There is one area in particular in which modern feminists are failing our sisters and our feminist foremothers: abortion. Early feminists opposed abortion as an exploitation of women—and modern feminists should, too.

In a stunning display of historic revisionism, NARAL Pro-Choice American President Ilyse Hogue recently claimed in a Cosmopolitan article that those who oppose abortion are not really anti-abortion but that “they are against a world where women can contribute equally and chart our own destiny in ways our grandmothers never thought possible.”

In other words, Hogue, a self-proclaimed feminist, believes that those who oppose abortion oppose women; and therefore those who are anti-abortion are anti-women.

But I wonder if Hogue — and other pro-abortion advocates who have said similar things — realize that they are calling the founding mothers of the feminist movement anti-woman. The claim that in order to be pro-woman you must also be pro-abortion runs contrary to what our feminist foremothers actually believed and wrote.

What’s Happening With The Protect Life Rule?

Do you remember when Vice President Pence spoke at the 2017 March for Life, just days after President Trump’s inauguration?

During his March for Life speech, the Vice President shared:

“We will not rest until we restore a culture of life in America for ourselves and our posterity.”

Since then, many positive steps have been taken to protect life – including the proposed “Protect Life” Rule, which would block the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, from $60 million in taxpayer funds.

In May, the Trump Administration issued the proposed rule, which would restrict Title X federal funding from going to any entity that performs, supports, or refers for abortion.

Earlier this week, the public comment period for the Protect Life Rule closed, and March for Life activists submitted over 13,000 comments in support of this proposed rule.

Thank you!

I recently had the opportunity to talk with NPR about the historic nature of the Protect Life Rule, and the timeline for its completion:

“Changes to Title X would be as game-changing as securing a like-minded Supreme Court nominee, said Tom McClusky, president of March for Life Action, who has worked for two decades to tighten restrictions on abortion.

‘As we become more of a pro-life nation, this could be very well a turning point to help educate people on the difference between health care and abortion, and exactly what Roe v. Wade does as opposed to what people think Roe v. Wade does,’ he said.

After the public comment period ends July 31, the Department of Health and Human Services must go through thousands of submitted comments. This will take time, McClusky said.”

>>>> Read the entire article HERE.

This is a long-awaited action – since the Reagan Administration – and an important step in holding the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, accountable.

We will keep you updated as the Protect Life Rule goes through the final stages.

Thank you for your support of the pro-life cause!

March for Life in the News

An important part of our mission at the March for Life is to educate the public on current policy and represent the pro-life movement in the public square.

We are grateful to be considered a “go to” expert on pro-life issues by major media.

Here is our highlight reel from the last few months:

OP-EDs

8.1 Real Clear Politics – Americans Largely Agree on Abortion Limits

7.2 Washington Times – The Supreme Court rules to favor pregnancy centers

6.22 The Hill – Pope Francis is right — abortion is modern-day eugenics

6.12 Washington Examiner – The March for Life is still inspiring an international culture of life

6.8 Washington Post (LTE) – Arkansas’s abortion restriction

5.17 The Hill – Trump, taxpayers want Title X funding protected from abortion clinics

5.2 Real Clear Politics – This Is the Pro-Life Generation

TV

5.18 – CBS Affiliate Stations – New proposal would cut funds to facilities associated with abortion

Radio

7.21 – NYC NPR, WAMC – Groups Mobilize For Supreme Court Nominee Battle

5.20 – BBC Radio, The Compass – Abortion in America: Washington

Major Print

7.20 New York Times – ‘I’m Doing It for the Babies’: Inside the Ground Game to Reverse Roe v. Wade

“Abortion is the single most significant human rights abuse of our time,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, which has brought tens of thousands of protesters to Washington every year since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973. “I have a lot of hope for incremental laws — for example, a late-term abortion ban.”

7.9 FOX News – Kavanaugh nomination to Supreme Court cheered by conservatives

The president of March for Life, a pro-life organization and annual event that protests Roe V. Wade, said that Kavanaugh has “excellent professional qualifications,” proving he’s the right choice for the vacant seat.

“He is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the Constitution,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the event.

7.9 The Guardian – Trump names Brett Kavanaugh as nominee for next supreme court justice

And Jeanne Mancini, president of the anti-abortion organization March for Life, said: “He is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the constitution.”

6.29 AP News (CBS cross-publish) – Supreme Court change may limit, not kill, abortion rights

“I think the president’s list is a very strong list. I’m convinced the people on this list are Gorsuch-like,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life.

6.26 Washington Post – Supreme Court decision on crisis pregnancy centers draws strong reaction from all sides

“Advertising or promoting abortion runs directly counter to the very reason pregnancy care centers exist — namely to enable and support women who want to choose life for their children to do so. The government has no business forcing these centers to violate their First Amendment right to free speech and, in doing so, work against their life-affirming mission.” – Jeanne Mancini, president, March for Life

6.26 Roll Call – Supreme Court Sides With Pregnancy Centers in Free Speech Case

Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life, also said the advertising of abortion runs against the centers’ mission. “The government has no business compelling these centers to work against their life-affirming mission, violating their first amendment right to free speech,” she said.

6.7 New York Times – How to Participate in Politics

“There’s quite a bit of logistical work involved,” says Jeanne Mancini of March for Life, which plans a large anti-abortion march in Washington, D.C., every year. Being meticulous will help make the message of your demonstration more effective and help you avoid embarrassing snags.”

5.19 Boston Globe – Trump administration abortion rule sets off alarms in Mass.

“This money will now be redirected to comprehensive family health and planning centers that don’t perform abortions and understand that abortion is not health care,” March for Life president Jeanne Mancini said in a statement. She said the grass-roots antiabortion activists look forward to restoring “a culture of life here in the United States.”

5.18 Washington Post – Trump administration will pull funds from groups that perform abortions or provide referrals

Jeanne F. Mancini, president of the anti-abortion group March for Life, praised the administration in a statement Friday.

“This money will now be redirected to comprehensive family health and planning centers that don’t perform abortions and understand that abortion is not health care,” Mancini said. “The pro-life grassroots will be pleased to see President Trump deliver on yet another pro-life promise.”

6 Ways to Get Ready for the 2019 March for Life!

6 Ways to Get Ready for March for Life 2019

It’s just 6 months until tens of thousands of pro-life Americans will march in our Nation’s Capital!

There are many ways you can support the pro-life movement and get ready for March for Life 2019 on Friday, January 18, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

Here are the top 6 things you can do to get ready:

1. Download the March for Life 2019 Trip Planner

From conferences to rallies, the March for Life is filled with great opportunities to celebrate life, connect with marchers, and learn how to become a more effective pro-life advocate.

It can be hard to keep all of these details straight, especially when you are leading a whole group! That’s why we put all of the information you will need in one place.

>>>> Download our March for Life 2019 Trip Planner for all March for Life related details.

Still have questions? Connect with other March for Life trip leaders by joining our Trip Planner Facebook group.

2. Give to a local pro-life pregnancy resource center.

The sole focus of pro-life pregnancy centers is to care for parents and their children, particularly when facing an unexpected pregnancy. These centers collectively offer over $100 million every year in free services, ranging from sonograms to baby diapers.

The live-saving work of pregnancy centers relies on the generosity of pro-lifers in their local community.

Go to https://optionline.org/ to find a life-affirming pregnancy clinic in your community.

3. Contact your Senators and tell them to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court

On Monday July 9th, President Trump announced Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court nominee.

As pro-life marchers, we understand the impact of the Supreme Court, and the crucial importance of having justices, like Scalia and Gorsuch, who interpret the Constitution as it was originally written.

>>>> Urge your Senators to give Kavanaugh an open and fair confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Judge Kavanaugh is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the Constitution.

4. Comment on HHS Title X Protect Life Rule

The HHS proposed a new Title X Protect Life rule that will stop all Title X funds from going to any institution that performs, advocates, or supports abortion in any way. With this rule in place, Planned Parenthood will lose $40 – $60 million in tax payer dollars every year.

>>>> Share your support for the rule by adding your comments to the Protect Life rule.

5. Thank a Pro-life OBGYN

Hundreds of OBGYNs are standing against the abortion industry and using their voice to protect life.

Take some time to show your support for OBGYN’s who courageously advocate for life.

Send them a card. Give them a phone call. Show these pro-life doctors that their bravery, commitment to life, and hard work is appreciated!

Go to https://aaplog.org/ to find pro-life doctors near you.

6. Share on social media that you march for life

Our movement continues to grow, but we need your voice!

Share our “I march for life” graphic on social media to let your friends and family know that you stand for the right to life. Be sure to include a link to our 2019 website and invite others to march with you.

Thank you for using your voice to defend LIFE.

We’ll see you on January, 18th 2019!

Everyone Should Be a Part of This!

Everyone should be a part of this!”

This is what one young marcher shared at the 2018 March for Life, and we couldn’t agree more.

Watch this inspiring “Why We March” recap video for more reflections:

The 45th Annual March for Life was a beautiful and historic day. But it was just the beginning of our work for the year.

Everyone can still be a part of the March for Life by taking action each and every day in their communities and in the public square to be a voice for life.

The injustice of abortion has been going on 45 years too long! Will you commit to keep marching forward throughout 2018 to ensure that Roe v. Wade will not turn 50?

>>>> Click HERE to sign up for action alerts!

Please share with friends and family and share on social media, to ensure that every pro-life American takes part in the work of the March for Life.

As another marcher shared in the video – “life is worth fighting for.”
