WATCH: A Mother’s Love Saved Her Life

At the 2018 March for Life Conference and Youth Rally, we heard many inspiring stories embodying this year’s theme, “Love Saves Lives.”

One of these stories was shared by Christina Bennett. Christina is an outspoken voice in the pro-life movement.

After graduating from college with a degree in Business Communication she moved to D.C and joined the pro-life ministry of the Justice House of Prayer and Bound4Life. Christina is a policy analyst at the Family Institute of Connecticut, and a speaker for the National Black Pro-Life Coalition.

In a biographical piece for Live Action News, Christina writes: “In the early 1980s, I was scheduled to be aborted. In a hospital in the city of Hartford, Connecticut, I had an appointment to die. A janitor approached my mother and spoke to her, giving her the strength to walk out.”

Watch Christina share more about her story, and the loving choice her mother made that saved Christina’s life.

Christina’s words are beautiful and inspiring –>>

“My mother’s love saved my own life. Love is more than a feeling, love is more than an emotion; love is a decision, love is an action, love is something we do because we care about other people. It is a sacrifice we make on behalf of other people; that we think of them better than we think of ourselves. That’s what my mother did for me; a loving act that has now allowed me to love other people. I’ve been able to work with women and see the lives of children saved because my mom saved my life.”

Thank you Christina for sharing your story and heroic love of your mother. Love truly does save lives.

NFL Players and Family Speaking out for Life

Over the past few years, the March for Life has been blessed to have the support of several individuals affiliated with the NFL.

Former Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk spoke at the 2018 March for Life, joined by his wife Adrianna and their children. Matt and Adrianna are living examples of the 2018 theme, “Love Saves Lives.”

In his March for Life remarks, Matt reminded us of the importance of compassion in our work to end abortion, and how to offer loving encouragement to anyone considering abortion.

“It’s important to remember that those who are pro-abortion, the war is not against them, it’s against the evil of abortion, that those people, they are our brothers and sisters. They are children of God. They are made in His likeness.”

“What is more beautiful than a brand new baby? A brand new baby is perfect. It looks perfect. It sounds perfect. It smells perfect. It’s pure, it’s incapable of resentment, or hatred, or anger. It’s perfect. So I would tell someone that I care about, I’d say I don’t want you to have an abortion, because it would prevent you from experiencing the fullness of joy that God has for your life.”

Pam Tebow, mother of NFL and MLB athlete Tim Tebow, also joined us at both the 2018 March for Life as well as the Rose Dinner that evening.

— March for Life (@March_for_Life) January 20, 2018

She shared the courageous and miraculous story of Tim Tebow’s birth:

“When Timmy entered the world he (the doctor) said, “This is a miracle baby”. He said, “I’ve never witnessed such a miracle”, because only a tiny piece of the placenta was intact. He was somewhat malnourished though, so we asked all of our family and friends in the states to pray that he would grow big and strong, and if you’ve seen him lately, you’ll know God answered those prayers.”

Pam Tebow also referenced the Super Bowl ad she and Tim featured in several years ago, produced by Focus on the Family. A Barna Group survery estimated that 5.5. million people rethought their position on abortion because of that commercial, including one woman who chose life over abortion after seeing it. Stories of love and sacrifice can truly change lives!

And at the 2017 March for Life, Baltimore Raven’s Tight End Benjamin Watson had a powerful message for the crowd, particularly men.

“We need to be the leaders, caretakers, and providers that we were meant to be. We as men must stand up for the lives of the innocent and their mothers in crisis.”

>>>> Read more about Watson’s appearance at the March for Life or watch the clip below of his remarks.

Watson hints at a very important point. When a woman faces an unexpected pregnancy, she is more likely to choose life IF she has the support and encouragement of even just one person.

In fact, research from the umbrella Pregnancy Center group, Care Net, finds that “the father of the baby is (by far) the most influential factor in a mother’s decision to keep or abort her child. Sadly, so many fathers either push the mother to abort or leave the decision to her, essentially stepping away from their responsibility.”

Watson ends with an encouraging note in his exhortation:

“Even if it wasn’t demonstrated to you by a father, you can be different. You can change the course of generations.”

Each of us has our own sphere of influence to impact others – whether it is one person or a group of people – to choose life and to end “the unthinkable practice of abortion in the United States of America.”

We can all take inspiration from these influential individuals and their passion and commitment to life!

Pro-Life State of the Union: Looking Back and Forward

Tonight, Senators, Representatives, and other distinguished guests will gather in the halls of Congress to hear President Trump deliver his first State of the Union Address.

Earlier today, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini had an op-ed published on the “Pro-Life State of the Union” for Real Clear Politics.

>>>> Click HERE to read the op-ed. In the op-ed, Jeanne writes:

“Just over a week ago, the president made history when he addressed an audience of over 100,000 pro-life Americans via satellite at the 45th annual March for Life. As he noted in his remarks, people from across the nation flooded the streets of Washington, D.C., united by their love, joy and hope for “one beautiful cause: to build a society where life is celebrated, protected, and cherished.”

>>>> Watch President Trump’s full March for Life remarks.

We’ve seen a great many pro-life victories in the past year, and we are thankful for an Administration and the Members of Congress who stand for life.

It was an honor to have so many of them with us at the 2018 March for Life!

Among those pro-life Members of Congress who joined us this year, we were honored to have Speaker of the House Paul Ryan address the crowds at the March for Life. His remarks also touched on the “pro-life state of the Union.”

“Looking out on this crowd, I can see there are people here of all ages, from all walks of life, but the young people here is what is so inspiring because it tells me this is a movement that is on the rise.

And do you know why the pro-life movement is on the rise? Because truth is on our side. Life begins at conception….

Most importantly, the pro-life movement is on the rise because we have love on our side. We believe every person is worthy of love and dignity. That is why the pro-life movement is on the rise.”

>>>> Watch a recap of Speaker Ryan’s March for Life remarks.

While we can look back on the past year of many pro-life accomplishments, we must also look forward and what we can accomplish this year.

Will you join us in taking action each month to end abortion?

As Jeanne concludes in her op-ed, “We grieve the loss of 60 million Americans whose lives have been ended by abortion since it was legalized in 1973, but we also have great hope for ending this human rights abuse in the future and restoring a culture of life in the United States.”

Thank you for joining with us to work towards a permanent pro-life Union.

Conscience Protection Act Capitol Hill Press Conference

Today, lawmakers and pro-life leaders joined together to support the Conscience Protection Act in a press conference on Capitol Hill. The legislation would protect the conscience rights of health care providers from the power of federal and state governments coercing them to participate in the brutal act of abortion.

VIDEO: Why Life is Winning

The upcoming 2018 March for Life will be the 45th annual March for Life, totaling 45 years of Roe v. Wade – and legalized abortion – in America. This corresponds with the loss of nearly 59 million Americans to abortion in our country since 1973.

This is a tragic, heartbreaking statistic to consider. Every abortion is one too many, and our vision at the March for Life is a world in which every human life is valued and protected. We work towards the day when abortion is unthinkable in our country.

While there is still much work to be done, the pro-life movement has made great progress in the past 45 years. March for Life President Jeanne Mancini recently wrote about this in the Heritage Foundation’s 2017 Index of Culture and Opportunity in a piece entitled “Why Life is Winning.”

Among other signs that life is winning, she cites the steep decline in the abortion rate since its height in 1980.

Pro-life scholar Chuck Donovan of the Charlotte Lozier Institute recently joined Jeanne to discuss the abortion rate, as well as other cultural and legislative indicators on the side of life. Chuck also discussed a winning approach: to overwhelm ‘the other side’ with love.

WATCH:

A few key points discussed include:

  • After the legalization of abortion in 1973, the numbers and rate of abortions surged for a period. In 1980, abortion rates began to decrease. The Hyde amendment, barring Medicaid-funded abortions was passed in 1976.
  • The rate continues to decrease under both Republican and Democrat Administrations – we need to look to cultural factors to fully understand.
  • Ultimately, the American people are rejecting the fundamental message of Roe; which is that abortion has minimal legal limits, is medically routine, and that it can happen up to birth.
  • When you look at the numbers, we’re back at the 1973 level today. Will the Americans take the next step and decide that Roe is bad law?
  • We now have a generation that has experienced what abortion does – our youth understand that abortion is violence; and they reject it.
  • With ultrasound technology and what we know about abortion procedures, there is no way an abortion can be classified as anything other than violence. You also cannot deny the humanity of the baby in the womb.
  • Abortion clinics are also declining in number, while Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs) have proliferated. These centers date back to the early days of the pro-life movement.
  • There are 3100 PRCs across the country – that’s 4x the number of abortion clinics.
  • There’s still a lot of work to do with 900,000 abortions per year and chemical abortions on the rise.
