Congress must Act Now and Approve Budget without Funding Abortion Provider

Washington, D.C – The U.S. Congress must pass a budget funding the US government by the end of September. Congress must pass the budget without Planned Parenthood’s millions of taxpayer dollars and send the bill to President Obama’s desk to sign.

To make sure Congress and President Obama hear directly from women who have been harmed by Planned Parenthood, pro-life groups are organizing the #WomenBetrayed: The Real Stories Rally & Lobby Day in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, September 10th at 12:00pm to 2:00pm.

“We need to stand together in unity to begin to restore our country’s goodness by our virtue.” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “Specifically we are called to live heroic perseverance, fortitude and love. I am certain that if we continue to fight for the human rights of the most vulnerable among us and continue to tell the truth about how abortion hurts women then one day soon we will win! We will restore a culture of love and life where no woman in her right mind would choose abortion and where every precious human life is respected from conception.”

Who:   March for Life and other Pro-Life Organizations

What:  #WomenBetrayed: The Real Stories Rally & Lobby Day

Where: Area 10 on the Capitol Grounds on this map

When: September 10, 2015 at 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Court says Government can’t force organization to Act Contrary to Pro-Life Beliefs

WASHINGTON – A federal court issued an order Monday in March for Life v. Burwell that permanently prohibits the Obama administration from enforcing its abortion-pill mandate on the pro-life organization, founded with the sole purpose of ending abortion. The order is the first one to be granted in favor of an organization opposed to the mandate for pro-life reasons based on science and moral convictions rather than religion.

March for Life, which holds its well-known pro-life march each year in Washington, D.C., filed a lawsuit through the Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys in July 2014 and requested a permanent injunction against the mandate. The mandate forces employers, regardless of their moral convictions, to provide insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs and devices under threat of heavy financial penalties through the IRS.

“We are delighted that the court has ruled in our favor on this crucially important case,” March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said of the ruling. “The government should not be allowed to force organizations like the March for Life to have health insurance with drugs and devices that can cause an abortion. We didn’t want to go to court but were backed into a corner and had no other options. As an American today I am grateful for the balance of powers. I am also deeply grateful for Alliance Defending Freedom and Matt Bowman working on our behalf this past year. ”

“Pro-life organizations should not be forced into betraying the very values they were established to advance,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Matt Bowman. “This is especially true of March for Life, which was founded to uphold life, not to assist in taking it. The government has no right to demand that organizations provide health insurance plan options that explicitly contradict their mission.”

“If the purpose of the religious employer exemption is, as HHS states, to respect the anti-abortifacient tenets of an employment relationship, then it makes no rational sense-indeed, no sense whatsoever to deny March for Life that same respect,” explains the decision.

290 Demonstrations to be Held on Saturday, August 22, 2015

Washington, D.C –  As more undercover “sting” videos are released and continue to reveal the heartbreaking and abhorrent activity of Planned Parenthood, Americans are joining en force to protest the nation’s largest abortion provider. “Over the past few weeks Americans on both sides of the political aisle have been have been shocked as they have watched one video after the other of Planned Parenthood officials exploiting the dignity of the human person — both mother and baby,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “The undercover videos have revealed how the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, is harvesting and trafficking little hearts, livers, lungs of aborted children. Planned Parenthood receives over half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds every year, while taking the lives of 300 preborn babies every day and we are joining together with other pro-life organizations to raise awareness and demand action against, and defunding of, the group.”

Give Life August: Lobby for Life!

For the month of August, our March for Life Give Life challenge is to “lobby” for life with your Congressman!

MFL_MEME2_08032015There are many pro-life concerns that you can share with your Representative.  For example, as you are likely aware, the Center for Medical Progress has released a series of undercover videos that have exposed Planned Parenthood’s egregious organ harvesting practices.

Visiting face to face with your Representative or their staff is the most effective way to influence them to support a culture of life. Individuals and groups can arrange personal meetings with Senators and Congressmen in their local offices at various times throughout the year. Furthermore, Students for Life has put together a list of congressional “townhalls” that you can check by clicking HERE.

To find out when your Senator or Congressman will be in their local office, we recommend calling their local office, checking their website, or signing up for their mailing list.  Do not be discouraged if you meet with the legislator’s staff; staff members are often more involved in the details of particular issues than the legislators themselves, and they will inform the legislator of your views.

For the full list of tips and advice on how to “Lobby for Life,” click HERE to see our August Give Life Challenge!

After Senate Vote, House of Representatives Must Take Up Issue

Washington, D.C – This afternoon the U.S. Senate voted 53 to 46 on S.1881, legislation to defund America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, and re-direct their funding to other health care entities that do not perform abortions. While receiving the majority of votes, the bill fell short of the 60 necessary to move forward immediately. Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, praised the bipartisan group of Senators who voted to support S.1881, legislation that would stop taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and asked for continued support and work to defund Planned Parenthood.“Over the past few weeks Americans on both sides of the political aisle have been have been shocked as they have watched one video after the other of Planned Parenthood officials exploiting the dignity of the human person — both mother and baby. The undercover videos have revealed how the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, is harvesting and trafficking little hearts, livers, lungs of aborted children. Planned Parenthood receives over half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds every year, while taking the lives of 300 preborn babies every day.”

“Today, a bipartisan group of Senators voted to support S.1881, legislation that would stop taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and redirect the money to life-affirming health care centers that protect women and babies,” Mrs. Mancini explained. “We commend the courageous Senators who support this crucial legislation and we call on the entire Congress to continue with their efforts to protect life by putting an end to the use of taxpayer funds to support this organization.”
