After Senate Vote, House of Representatives Must Take Up Issue |
|
Washington, D.C – This afternoon the U.S. Senate voted 53 to 46 on S.1881, legislation to defund America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, and re-direct their funding to other health care entities that do not perform abortions. While receiving the majority of votes, the bill fell short of the 60 necessary to move forward immediately. Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, praised the bipartisan group of Senators who voted to support S.1881, legislation that would stop taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and asked for continued support and work to defund Planned Parenthood.“Over the past few weeks Americans on both sides of the political aisle have been have been shocked as they have watched one video after the other of Planned Parenthood officials exploiting the dignity of the human person — both mother and baby. The undercover videos have revealed how the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, is harvesting and trafficking little hearts, livers, lungs of aborted children. Planned Parenthood receives over half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds every year, while taking the lives of 300 preborn babies every day.”
“Today, a bipartisan group of Senators voted to support S.1881, legislation that would stop taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and redirect the money to life-affirming health care centers that protect women and babies,” Mrs. Mancini explained. “We commend the courageous Senators who support this crucial legislation and we call on the entire Congress to continue with their efforts to protect life by putting an end to the use of taxpayer funds to support this organization.” The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion. Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life Education and Defense Fund, is available for interviews.
