The briefing will feature women heading up organizations that provide a variety of wonderful services for women and their babies.

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has a Strong Record of Pro-Life Legislation

Washington, D.C.  – The United States House of Representatives today elected Congressman Paul Ryan to serve as Speaker of the House. The March for Life Education & Defense Fund applauded the United States House of Representatives for electing a strong advocate for pro-life issues in Congressman Paul Ryan and urged the new Speaker of the House to return to regular order.

“By embracing the Freedom Caucus’ proposal to return to regular order, Speaker Ryan can have a meaningful impact on the pro-life movement,” said March for Life Vice President for Governmental Affairs Tom McClusky. “For close to twenty years, the appropriations process has been broken, resulting in an endless series of last minute spending bills. As a result of this failure, American taxpayers have been stuck with 20th century pro-life provisions in a 21st century world. Without the proper appropriations process, the necessary pro-life provisions such as the protection of conscience rights for California hospitals being forced by the state of California to pay for abortions ends up left out of these eleventh hour bills.”

Other States Must Follow Texas’ Lead, Defund Planned Parenthood

Washington, D.C.  – The March for Life Education and Defense Fund today applauded the State of Texas for taking the lead in completely defunding Planned Parenthood from all taxpayer funding, including severing its ties with Medicaid funding.

“The March for Life applauds Texas’ decision to sever all ties with the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “We encourage all other states to follow suit in seeking all options to stop taxpayer money from flowing to Planned Parenthood and to reallocate those resources to federally qualified health centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics by 20 to 1 and provide many more health services.”

Abortion is the Human Rights Abuse of Today and Should Absolutely be a Bi-Partisan Issue

Washington, D.C.  – In response to last night’s first Democratic debate, March for Life Education and Defense Fund President Jeanne Mancini offered the following comment:

“Abortion is the human rights abuse of today and should absolutely be a bi-partisan issue. It is truly sad that the life issues weren’t addressed head-on within the presidential debate last night, especially given that they featured prominently in the other two debates in recent weeks.”

In response to Hillary Clinton’s accusation that pro-life leaders use “big government” to implement pro-life policies, Tom McClusky, March for Life Action Vice-President for Government Affairs, further added:

“Mrs. Clinton seems to feel abortion giant Planned Parenthood is a victim of Big Government. Correction, Mrs. Clinton: with over half a billion in taxpayer funds filling their coffers Planned Parenthood IS Big Government.”

Pro-life Coalition Urges Use of Reconciliation to Defund Planned Parenthood

National and State Pro-life Leaders: Send a Bill to President Obama’s Desk

Washington, D.C.  – The March for Life Education and Defense Fund signed on to a coalition letter along with 35 other national and state pro-life leaders urging Congress to defund Planned Parenthood through reconciliation.

“Planned Parenthood is the nation’s primary abortion provider, receiving almost half of its annual revenue from our taxpayer dollars. With federally qualified health centers outnumbering the Planned Parenthood clinics by 20 to 1, and providing much more in the way of services, including well child exams, immunizations, mammograms, etc., there is no question that taxpayer dollars should be redirected to better options as soon as possible.” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “We support any effort in Congress that reduces, or eliminates completely, any taxpayer dollars going to this corrupt organization.”

The letter, which was sent this morning, reads in part:

“…Over one million abortions are performed annually in the United States, with nearly 330,000 occurring in Planned Parenthood facilities, all the way up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, past the time when recent studies show that a substantial percentage of these children can be saved if treated with the best techniques of modern perinatal medicine. Regardless of whether Americans identify as pro-life or pro-choice, we should all be able to agree that taxpayer dollars should not be subsidizing an already cash-flush industry. Instead, these tax dollars would be put to better use at local community health centers, which provide all the same health services Planned Parenthood does (and usually more), but do not abort the lives of unborn children and callously harvest their body parts for profit.

“For these reasons and more we support using the reconciliation process to end Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses. Using this process will ensure that pro-abortion extremists in the Senate will be unable to further filibuster Congressional action on this urgent issue. We hope that sending a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to the President’s desk would help educate Americans and encourage them to watch the videos about the atrocities committed by Planned Parenthood.”
