Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has a Strong Record of Pro-Life Legislation |

Washington, D.C. – The United States House of Representatives today elected Congressman Paul Ryan to serve as Speaker of the House. The March for Life Education & Defense Fund applauded the United States House of Representatives for electing a strong advocate for pro-life issues in Congressman Paul Ryan and urged the new Speaker of the House to return to regular order. “By embracing the Freedom Caucus’ proposal to return to regular order, Speaker Ryan can have a meaningful impact on the pro-life movement,” said March for Life Vice President for Governmental Affairs Tom McClusky. “For close to twenty years, the appropriations process has been broken, resulting in an endless series of last minute spending bills. As a result of this failure, American taxpayers have been stuck with 20th century pro-life provisions in a 21st century world. Without the proper appropriations process, the necessary pro-life provisions such as the protection of conscience rights for California hospitals being forced by the state of California to pay for abortions ends up left out of these eleventh hour bills.” The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion. Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life Education and Defense Fund, is available for interviews.
