An NFL Player’s Message to Men about Abortion

June 12, 2017 By Scott Zipperle

An NFL Player’s Message to Men about Abortion

At the 2017 March for Life, Baltimore Raven’s Tight End Benjamin Watson had a powerful message for the crowd, particularly men.

“We need to be the leaders, caretakers, and providers that we were meant to be. We as men must stand up for the lives of the innocent and their mothers in crisis.”

>>>> Read more about Watson’s appearance at the March for Life.

Watson hints at a very important point. When a woman faces an unexpected pregnancy, she is more likely to choose life IF she has the support and encouragement of even just one person.1

In fact, research from the umbrella Pregnancy Center group, Care Net, finds that “the father of the baby is (by far) the most influential factor in a mother’s decision to keep or abort her child. Sadly, so many fathers either push the mother to abort or leave the decision to her, essentially stepping away from their responsibility.”

Watson ends with an encouraging note in his exhortation:

“Even if it wasn’t demonstrated to you by a father, you can be different. You can change the course of generations.”

Each of us has our own sphere of influence – this is the “power of one.” We can each influence others – whether it is one person or a group of people – to choose life and to end “the unthinkable practice of abortion in the United States of America.”

How will you use your influence today?

Honoring the Life of a Pro-Life Hero: Mark Gallagher

“The Power of One” was the 2017 March for Life theme.  That theme was made manifest in a gentle man with a giant heart, who showered his gifts on the pro-life movement. Today I had the privilege of attending the funeral of Deacon Mark Gallagher, a man, who, in the words of Congressman Chris Smith, was a “pro-life unsung hero,” working tirelessly as a pro-life lobbyist for the United States Catholic Bishops for 33 years. (Click HERE or the Congressional Record image to read the full statement from Congressman Smith.)

He passed away last week at the age of 75. He was a beloved husband to Kathy and father to Mark, Kim, Andrew, Lillian, David, Judy, Charles, Kate, and John. He was selfless, a “rock”, and a font of wisdom, as described to the packed church, including dozens of priests and a bishop.

While his family and friends are painfully grieving Mark’s sudden loss, there was overwhelming peace during the mass and a profound sense of the fruitfulness of his life.

One of his most significant legislative accomplishments was contributing to the enactment of the Hyde Amendment in 1976, which prohibits taxpayer dollars paying for most abortions. The Hyde Amendment is undoubtedly the single most effective pro-life public policy in the history of the United States; a study published in 2016 by Dr. Michael New showed that the Hyde Amendment has saved at least two million lives in its time.

Such an impact on our culture often comes at personal cost. Mark had war wounds from striving daily to fight the culture of darkness with a culture of life, love, light. He loved the Lord and lived his life totally centered on Him. His life and his sufferings bore inestimable fruit, much like the grain of wheat that falls to the ground and dies in order to bear fruit.

Mark Gallagher lived a beautiful life, centered on love. He perfectly embodied “the power of one.” May we all be inspired by his story to respond generously to God’s call and be the instrument that seeks the good of all.

Abortion Extremism Is Out Of Touch With Mainstream America

At the March for Life in January, Vice President Pence shared “life is winning again in America.” And in recent months, the cause of life is advancing as several states have made strides in protecting the unborn by signing into law legislation that restricts abortion.

Tennessee House passes 20-week abortion ban; bill heads to Governor Haslam https://t.co/K709rzcg2G #prolife

Great news out of Iowa! https://t.co/lZyhoyy2Xc via @dcexaminer #prolife

— March for Life (@March_for_Life) May 6, 2017

The Tennessee and Iowa measures follow the lead taken by several other states over the past few years to enact 20-week abortion bans.

Unfortunately, other states have moved in the opposite direction. ABC News reports today that the Governor of Delaware is set to sign into law legislation that “allows abortion without restriction before a fetus reaches viability. The bill also allows abortion after viability if a doctor determines that an abortion is necessary to protect the woman’s life or health, or that the baby is not likely to survive without extraordinary medical measures.”

Such extreme measures ignore the human dignity and personhood of an unborn child, as well as the harm that abortion brings to women. They are also out of touch with mainstream America. The vast majority of Americans believe that abortion should have real, legal limits. Eight out of ten Americans oppose late-term abortion and believe that the procedure should be limited to the first trimester, at most.

It’s time to end abortion extremism.

Time to Investigate Planned Parenthood

An activist federal judge is censoring the latest undercover video from the Center for Medical Progress exposing the abortion industry. Before the video was pulled from YouTube, we were horrified listening to the content of Planned Parenthood representatives discussing the sale of baby body parts.

“As hard as it is to watch, the American people need to see these videos,” shared March for Life President Jeanne Mancini on EWTN News Nightly last week. You can watch the full clip of her appearance below:

It has been nearly 2 years since the release of the first disturbing video from the Center for Medical Progress in July 2015. The previous Administration turned a blind eye to the wrongdoing revealed in the hours of footage of these videos.

The Congressional Select Investigative Panel made 15 criminal and regulatory referrals of tissue procurement, and the Senate Judiciary Committee made 7 criminal referrals to the Department of Justice.

But the Justice Department hasn’t yet indicated that they will take up this critical investigation.

Today we are asking for your help in contacting the Department of Justice to ask that they would open an investigation into paid fetal tissue transfers involving Planned Parenthood.

You can read the full letter the March for Life, along with pro-life allies, sent to the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation last week HERE.

Your voice is needed! We need every March for Life supporter and pro-life American to send a message to Attorney General Jeff Sessions encouraging him to continue his pro-life support by investigating Planned Parenthood.

>>>> Send a Message to Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

It’s time for the Department of Justice to continue the investigation begun by Congress.

Real Women’s Health Care: You Decide

Last year, Planned Parenthood aborted over 328,000 babies. Furthermore, their health care services such as cancer screenings, breast exams, and prenatal services continue to decline.

>>>> Read more about what we learned from Planned Parenthood’s 2015-2016 Annual Report.

Compare this with the availability of life-affirming federally qualified health services all across the country.

Abortion is not health care and women don’t need Planned Parenthood.

>>>> Women Have Real Choices Graphic from Alliance Defending Freedom and the Charlotte Lozier Institute.

>>>> Urge Congress to redirect Planned Parenthood’s federal funding towards true women’s health care:
