National and State Pro-life Leaders: Send a Bill to President Obama’s Desk

Washington, D.C.  – The March for Life Education and Defense Fund signed on to a coalition letter along with 35 other national and state pro-life leaders urging Congress to defund Planned Parenthood through reconciliation.

“Planned Parenthood is the nation’s primary abortion provider, receiving almost half of its annual revenue from our taxpayer dollars. With federally qualified health centers outnumbering the Planned Parenthood clinics by 20 to 1, and providing much more in the way of services, including well child exams, immunizations, mammograms, etc., there is no question that taxpayer dollars should be redirected to better options as soon as possible.” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “We support any effort in Congress that reduces, or eliminates completely, any taxpayer dollars going to this corrupt organization.”

The letter, which was sent this morning, reads in part:

“…Over one million abortions are performed annually in the United States, with nearly 330,000 occurring in Planned Parenthood facilities, all the way up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, past the time when recent studies show that a substantial percentage of these children can be saved if treated with the best techniques of modern perinatal medicine. Regardless of whether Americans identify as pro-life or pro-choice, we should all be able to agree that taxpayer dollars should not be subsidizing an already cash-flush industry. Instead, these tax dollars would be put to better use at local community health centers, which provide all the same health services Planned Parenthood does (and usually more), but do not abort the lives of unborn children and callously harvest their body parts for profit.

“For these reasons and more we support using the reconciliation process to end Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses. Using this process will ensure that pro-abortion extremists in the Senate will be unable to further filibuster Congressional action on this urgent issue. We hope that sending a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to the President’s desk would help educate Americans and encourage them to watch the videos about the atrocities committed by Planned Parenthood.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

The Dignity and Worth of Every Human Life Must be Protected by Society

Washington, D.C. – On Monday Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a bill legalizing physician-assisted suicide in California. The aged, depressed and disabled are among the citizens most vulnerable to laws of this type.

“California’s decision to allow doctors to determine whether or not a person is worthy of living is a huge mistake,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “This is a dark time for California and our country Whether a person is facing a terminal illness or has another serious health issue, his or her life has inherent value and deserves every respect and protection. Laws like the one Gov. Brown signed on Monday deny intrinsic human dignity and lead to the unraveling of a loving, healthy society where life is cherished at all stages..”

Planned Parenthood Under Fire

For a long time, pro-lifers have been working to spread the truth about Planned Parenthood. With the release of undercover videos gruesomely picturing the organization’s top staff involved in the harvesting of fetal body parts, pressure to discredit and defund Planned Parenthood has gained momentum, and more and more Americans are waking up to the truth about the nation’s largest abortion provider.

>>> Read the March for Life’s background paper on the history of Planned Parenthood.

Several Governors have taken action to defund Planned Parenthood in their states, and the House of Representatives has held a handful of votes on various pieces of legislation to do the same, although the bills have been stalled in the Senate. Additionally, several committees have launched investigations into Planned Parenthood, and the battle is not yet over.

MFL_MEME_09182015Here at the March for Life, our President and Vice President have been active in these efforts on Capitol Hill and in the media.  Additionally, on social media we have been engaged in helping others know the data and facts about Planned Parenthood. Recently, we shared a piece by our President Jeanne Mancini on the racist history of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, and it was shared over 28,000 times from the Daily Signal!

We also want to share with you an in-depth policy piece on Planned Parenthood written by Jeanne for the Capital Research Center. This policy piece details the history, activities, key personnel, and legal battles of Planned Parenthood, as well as the pro-life movements efforts to defund the abortion giant and support true, life-affirming healthcare for women.

We know that the truth is on our side, and it’s important to be armed with the facts to counter the countless falsehoods being spread. Please read and share, “Planned Parenthood Under Fire”, and join us in spreading the truth!

Washington, DC – Jeanne Mancini of the March for Life, has released the following statement amid the news that Speaker John Boehner will resign his position;

“The tremendous revival of Pro-life values across the past several years would have been almost insurmountable without the constant support of John Boehner. The child of twelve from a devout Catholic family, he was the first Speaker of the House to personally address the March for Life. When Obamacare threatened to fund and support abortions, it was he who drew a line in the sand and stood for what’s right.

We’re sad to lose such a staunch ally but his retirement is well deserved. We wish him well and look forward to his continued support of compassionate legislation that ensures the sanctity of all human life.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand.

Pope Francis Urges Congress to Defend Human Life at Every Stage of Development

Washington, D.C – Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of 1.2 billion Catholics, challenged Congress and by extension all Americans on Thursday to break out of its cycle of polarization and paralysis and heal the “open wounds” of a planet torn by hatred, greed, poverty and pollution. In particular, the Pope used the opportunity to advocate for all lives, even the unborn, saying that the “Golden Rule” is a reminder of “our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.” The comments were met by a standing ovation from both sides of the aisle.

IMG_2086Pope Francis then went on to Catholic Charities, where he met with a handful of people working to promote the dignity of the human person, including Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. She had this to say after the meeting:

“It was a profound honor and deep joy to meet the Holy Father today at Catholic Charities in Washington, D.C.” said Mrs. Mancini. “Symbolically, being included in such an event was all the more meaningful because being pro-life is about respecting the dignity of the human person from conception to natural death. During Pope Francis’ address to congress he mentioned Dorothy Day as an American hero. She was a woman who, after having chosen abortion, found the mercy, grace and healing that only God can bring following such an experience. The Holy Father’s messages, his actions and his presence have spoken to my heart and challenged me, and I pray that the same is true for every American.”

Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.
