Baltimore Ravens Football Star Matt Birk will Keynote Rally & Dinner

Washington, D.C. — The March for Life 2016 is fast approaching, and the March For Life Education & Defense Fund is pleased to announce that Super Bowl Champ and pro-life advocate Matt Birk will speak at this year’s March for Life Rally on the National Mall and keynote the 34th Annual Rose Dinner, both of which will be held on January 22, 2016.

As a Center for the Baltimore Ravens, Matt Birk is a 15 year veteran of the National Football League.  He was recognized as the 2011 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year, which acknowledges off the field contributions to the community as well as on the field accomplishments. Named to the Pro Bowl 6 times, Matt’s career culminated in February of 2013 in a Super Bowl win for the Baltimore Ravens.

Following the Raven’s victory, Matt chose not to participate in the White House Super Bowl celebratory meeting with President Obama because of the president’s support for Planned Parenthood, a decision that received significant media coverage. Matt and his wife, Adrianna, are both actively involved in the pro-life movement, including with their local pregnancy center and past participation in pro-life marches.  The couple have 6 children and currently reside in Greenwich, CT.

“We are very excited about Matt Birk’s participation in this year’s March for Life and annual Rose Dinner,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “Matt has been a role model for all Americans by combining his successful football career with his inspiring leadership in his community.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Pro-Life Protections Necessary in End-of-Year Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. — The Senate voted on Thursday night to repeal large portions of Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood, a major victory for pro-life Americans. The Reconciliation bill will next head to the House where it is expected to pass, and then to the desk of President Obama. March for Life Action is now urging the Senate to protect pro-life provisions on the end-of-year omnibus spending bill.

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and pro-life Senators deserve high praise for their successful efforts last night to stop the forced partnership of American taxpayers and abortion giant Planned Parenthood,” said Tom McClusky, President of March for Life Action. “Now Congress must pivot to the Omnibus where they need to protect current pro-life provisions as well as the necessary new ones. This should include protections for pro-life organizations, especially Christian churches, from being forced to pay for abortion.”

Pro-Life Leaders Urge House to Move Forward in Defunding Abortion Giant

Washington, D.C – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Monday national security has become the top issue Republicans are looking promote as a possible “add on” in the upcoming government spending bill, and said this issue may end up replacing efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

Pro-Life leaders across the board are urging House Leadership not to delay the fight to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Planned Parenthood is the largest abortionist in the United States and it is abhorrent that taxpayers are being forced to subsidize them,” said Tom McClusky, President of March for Life Action. “The abortion giant is not the only pro-life concern that is in front of Congress. To name just a few, there are currently pro-life Christian hospitals being forced to pay for abortions, taxpayers being forced to pay for abortions for detained immigrants and Congressional staff on Obamacare exchanges that offer abortions despite that being against Federal law. If Congress wants to protect taxpayers from being complicit in the deaths of innocents, those are all good places to start.”

Planned Parenthood commits close to 330,000 abortions every year. In their 2013-2014 report Planned Parenthood stated their total revenue was over $1.3 billion. 46 percent of that revenue came from federal, state and city governments. In that same year, the non-profit had a budget surplus of $127.1 million, some of which was likely profit from trafficking of little hearts, lungs and livers of little babies.

SCOTUS Agrees to Hear Texas Abortion Case

Pro-Life Advocates Urge Court to Support State’s Rights

Washington, D.C. — The Supreme Court today decided to hear a case about life that promises to be the most significant abortion case in at least two decades, and could inject divisive social issues into the presidential race at a key moment. The case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Cole, centers on a series of restrictions on Texas abortion providers and clinics, which led to the closure of about half of the state’s abortion facilities.

Until recently, abortion clinics were held to similar health regulations as beauty salons or public pools. In the wake of the scandals of Philadelphia abortionist, Kermit Gosnell, many states, including Texas, passed and exacted stricter regulations so that abortion facilities were held to the same regulations of outpatient surgical facilities.

“Abortion advocates often equate access to abortion with women’s health, but sadly are willing to lower the bar on abortion clinic standards,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “Today the Supreme Court made the right decision to hear this case and will hopefully let logic and reason prevail in their final decision.  Duly elected Texas legislators spoke strongly when they moved to protect women and save lives.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v.
