Leading the March: Concordia Lutheran High School

Guest blog post by Kirsten Olsen

On January 22, 2014, less than twenty Concordia Lutheran High School students trekked through frigid below-zero cold and the most snow Washington DC had seen in generations. Just a year later, 42 Concordia students marched through a much fairer Washington DC to stand up for those who can’t. This year, 70 students and 17 adults are traveling to Washington from Fort Wayne, Indiana to fight for the unborn, and have the honor and privilege to lead the March.

concordiaSince I was first a part of the March for Life in 2014, the students participating in the March for Life from my school has quadrupled. This never ceases to amaze me! I think a major part of our Pro-Life community growing by so much, has to do with the chapel services our group participates in every year. Concordia has a short chapel service every Monday morning and once or twice a year, the Pro-Life group gets to lead it. In the past, we have shown pictures and videos of the March, as well as having people speak on their experiences. The songs, hymns, and Bible readings all relate to life. It’s a really neat experience and I really think those chapels have gotten our students fired up about saving human lives.

Here in Fort Wayne, we have a great crisis pregnancy center called A Hope Center. The Hope Center reaches out to women who are in situations where they don’t have a place to go for help with their pregnancy, and is a great alternative to Planned Parenthood. They offer free pregnancy testing, STD testing, and ultrasounds, as well as classes for the moms and dads-to-be and Bible Studies. The Concordia Pro-Life group, has for the past few years, participated in their biggest fundraiser, Strides of Hope. This simple walk athon-type event is a really fun and easy way for our group to become involved in the Fort Wayne Pro-Life community.

“This is a huge opportunity for us and I think it’s great for our country’s leaders to see that we are the generation that will end abortion, and hopefully this 43rd March for Life will be the last one that needs to take place.”

Aside from these larger events, we also participate in events with the local legislature, and a Christmas festival. The Fort Wayne area has been blessed with the closing of the only abortion clinic in the area, but before this happened a little over a year ago, a group of us would go outside the clinic to pray for the women and babies going in, as well as the staff involved. These short one hour trips, I believe, were very eye opening to those of us who went, in that we were able to see how real the death of these human lives was; that’s not an understanding many high schoolers are able to have. Just that small glimpse was incredibly powerful.

Concordia is very blessed to have the privilege to lead the March for Life this year. To quote my good friend, Jack Wert, “To hold the banner is a great honor, I get to be the face, one of the leaders of the charge to support our cause. I wouldn’t be surprised if, when our cause is successful, a picture of that banner with us behind it will appear in history books for our children to see.” This is a huge opportunity for us and I think it’s great for our country’s leaders to see that we are the generation that will end abortion, and hopefully this 43rd March for Life will be the last one that needs to take place.

Pro-Life Businesswoman Exemplifies Theme of This Year’s March

Washington, D.C. — The March for Life 2016 is fast approaching, and the theme of this year’s march will be “Pro-Life and Pro-Woman Go Hand-In-Hand.” To highlight this theme, the March For Life Education & Defense Fund is pleased to announce that businesswoman and pro-life advocate Carly Fiorina will speak at this year’s March for Life Rally on Capitol Hill, which will be held on January 22, 2016 at 12:00 PM ET.

When Carly Fiorina was hired as Hewlett-Packard’s CEO, she was the first woman to take control of a Fortune 100 company. Since then, she has spearheaded the Unlocking Potential PAC, which advanced the pro-life movement through messaging for women and the American Conservative Union, whose mission includes protecting all lives, especially the unborn. Carly Fiorina has a national platform and has advocated for pro-life movement, including participating in March for Life Events such as the “Welcoming Every Life” speech and panel discussion last year.

“Carly Fiorina will be among many inspiring women who can share their testimony as female advocates of pro-life issues,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “Her national profile and work in the pro-life movement embody this year’s theme. Other pro-life female speakers  include Sue Ellen Browder, author of Subverted and Dr. Margarite Duane, MD, alongside Sen. Joni Ernst and Marjorie Dannenfelser who will introduce a video created to inspire young pro-life women to consider running for elected office. “

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund is available for commentary. This year’s march will be open to the press, and radio shows hoping to participate should RSVP by contacting Ryan Hughes at RHughes@SBPublicAffairs.com or (703) 739-5920.

Decision to Fund Planned Parenthood Shows Where President’s Priorities Lie

Washington, D.C. — President Obama has vetoed a bill to reduce taxpayer support of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

“President Barack Obama’s decision to continue using taxpayer money to fund the abortion industry through a stroke of his pen speaks directly to his administration’s priorities on life and the unborn. Language in the bill would have allowed for continued funding for Planned Parenthood if the organization stopped providing abortion. By vetoing this bill, the President’s choice for abortion is loud and clear, perhaps more than ever before.” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “We applauded the United States Congress for passing this bill to defund Planned Parenthood, thereby placing it on the President’s desk. We now ardently encourage Congress to vote on an override to the President’s veto.”

Decision to Fund Abortion Giant Now In President’s Hands

Washington, D.C. — The March for Life Education and Defense Fund today applauded the United States Congress for voting to defund Planned Parenthood, placing the bill on the President’s desk. With the decision to pass or veto the bill in the President’s hands, Planned Parenthood Federation of America faces an important decision: if the organization agrees to stop practicing abortion, which it claims is not its primary focus, the group can still receive federal tax dollars.

“We applaud the United States Congress for putting the bill to defund Planned Parenthood on the President’s desk,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “The decision to continue using taxpayer money to fund the abortion industry now rests with President Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood. Additionally, this bill would allow for the continued funding of the organization if they agree stop the practice of aborting unborn babies. Planned Parenthood claims that abortion is a secondary focus of the group. Americans will now see where their priorities lie.”
