Washington, D.C. – The Catholic Church in the United States has lost the Poor Clare nun who changed the face of Catholicism in the United States and around the world. Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), passed away on March 27 after a lengthy struggle with the aftereffects of a stroke. She was 92 years old.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “The March for Life community is deeply grateful for her life and everything she has done to help advance the cause of life all across the world. We work very closely with EWTN around the time of the March for Life and throughout the year. None of this would be possible without Mother Angelica.” The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion. |
