One of our most popular posts on Facebook was a story we shared in April about a New York woman who faced a tragic choice – to save her life or her baby’s. You’ll surely have a few tears in your eyes as you read about the valiant choice this woman made to ignore her doctor’s insistence to terminate her baby’s life, and instead succumb to the terminal cancer that wracked her body.
This story prompted a conversation in the comments section of our post about the importance of having an OB-GYN who adheres to the Hippocratic Oath and is committed to protecting lives of every human – preborn or born. One woman shared:
“Yesterday I had my last appointment with my OBGYN. I found out that he and others in his practice perform abortions and I let him know that because of this I could no longer be his patient. We had a good conversation but he still felt it was his place to terminate the lives of children to save them from being in homes where they are unwanted…I’m fervently searching for a pro-life doctor now.”
Thankfully, there is an organization that exists to counter the pro-abortion sentiment of far too many in the medical community – the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG). This is how AAPLOG describes itself: “to reaffirm the unique value and dignity of individual human life in all stages of growth and development from fertilization onward…We view the physician’s role as a caregiver, responsible, as far as possible, for the well-being of both the mother and her unborn child.” Live Action News featured this organization in a recent column as well.
Women can search for a pro-life OB-GYN from AAPLOG’s website. For example, in the Washington, D.C. area, where the March for Life is located, there is the Tepeyac Family Center, “a pro-life, OB/GYN, integrated healthcare practice with professional medical expertise that cares for the whole person.” and the March for Life was honored to have AAPLOG’s president, Donna Harrison, speak at our rally on the National Mall. You can view her remarks here:
Ladies, arm yourselves with the truth with the many helpful resources on pregnancy and women’s health that AAPLOG has on its website. Until then, let’s continue to work towards a society in which every person – and doctor! – understands and protects the precious preborn child.
