America’s Pro-Life Consensus

April 25, 2017 By Scott Zipperle

America’s Pro-Life Consensus

Many Americans do not realize that our nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, receives half a billion taxpayer dollars every year.

In a country where the majority of citizens are pro-life and eight out of ten Americans do not support taxpayer dollars paying for abortion, this funding is unjust and needs to stop!

The Missing Science

Guest Blog post by Brooke Stanton, Founder, Contend Projects

Did you know that when a human being begins to exist is a scientific issue and not a philosophical or religious one? And, that the science has been settled for a very long time? Did you also know that the scientific experts to ask about this most fundamental question are the experts in the science of Human Embryology?

For over 100 years, Human Embryology has stated that in sexual reproduction a new, whole, individual, living human being begins to exist at the beginning of the process of fertilization, i.e. at “first contact” between the sperm and the oocyte (“egg”).  When these two mere cells make first contact and fuse, immediately specific human proteins and enzymes are produced (not sperm or “egg” proteins and enzymes), and a new single-cell human being, with his or her own new, unique human genome and complete set of DNA begins to exist.  This is an objective, empirical and modern scientific fact, and is documented in the Carnegie Stages of Early Human Embryonic Development as Carnegie Stage 1a.

One of the main reasons the basic ‘facts of life’ are so confusing today is because of the court ruling in the Roe v. Wade case. In his majority opinion, Justice Blackmun wrote that the beginning of human life could not be determined, saying the “disciplines of medicine, philosophy and theology” were “unable to arrive at any consensus”, and “we need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins.”

Most people do not know that the academic disciplines Blackmun referenced have no bearing on the science of Human Embryology. Human Embryology is the only scientific field that specializes in when a human being begins and his or her early development.  Yet, no human embryologists testified in the Roe v. Wade case.

And so, because the science has been obscured for so long, today many people still believe that the question is not settled, and are making uninformed and erroneous decisions, policies and laws concerning a human embryo and a human fetus.

Contend Projects aims to reverse this deeply harmful trend. We are working to make the internationally acknowledged empirical scientific fact of when a human being normally begins simple, accessible and relevant for everyone.

March for Life Statement on Title X Law

“Today we thank President Donald Trump for restoring the state’s right to direct taxpayer dollars away from abortion providers in favor of supporting community health centers that deliver comprehensive women’s care, and already outnumber abortion providers 20 to 1.

We continue to applaud Vice President Mike Pence for casting the tie-breaking Senate vote, and are grateful for the strong female leadership exhibited by Rep. Diane Black and Sen. Joni Ernst in introducing H.J. Res 43 to Congress. We look forward to working with Congress in finding a permanent solution to defund Planned Parenthood, whose clinics perform over 320,000 abortions a year, and in ensuring that our government sides with the majority of Americans who oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.”

March for Life Statement on Supreme Court Confirmation of Neil Gorsuch

“The March for Life congratulates Judge Neil Gorsuch on his historic confirmation to the Supreme Court today. We were pleased to support Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, as were our grassroots activists from across America who sent thousands of messages to their Senators in support of his nomination. We thank Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for remaining steadfast throughout this process and President Trump for keeping his promise to the American people in nominating a pro-life Justice to the Supreme Court. November exit polls showed that 1 in 5 Americans prioritized the Supreme Court nomination when casting their vote, and with a majority of 57% of those voters casting a vote for Donald Trump, it is clear that the majority of American voters wanted a strict constructionist.”

Tom McClusky Healthcare Op-ed in Morning Consult

March for Life Vice President of Government Affairs, Tom McClusky was published in Morning Consult with an op-ed entitled, “Doing Nothing on Health Care Is Not an Option.”

Congress must persevere. The next attempt at repealing Obamacare needs to continue that pro-life trend, while also seeking consensus on the issues that led to the defeat of the first bill. To be clear, what happened last week was a failure. But with every failure comes an opportunity. True leadership will take that opportunity and run with it, not be defeated by it.
