Unsafe, Legal and Common

October 10, 2013 By Scott Zipperle Leave a Comment

Unsafe, Legal and Common

Back in the early 1990’s President Bill Clinton (D) and his wife Hillary tried to hide their hardcore abortion on demand at all stages beliefs behind a mantra of “safe, legal and rare.”  Decades later this slogan was exposed with the pro-abortion communities turning a blind eye to the butchering of Pennsylvania abortionist Kermit Gosnell.  Pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL, who ignored the signs of Gosnell’s actions while he was doing them, argue that Gosnell is an aberration among abortionists.  In truth Susan B. Anthony List has chronicled that the actions of Kermit Gosnell are more the norm than the oddity.

Despite this mounting evidence, abortion giant Planned Parenthood has spent millions fighting common sense legislation that would actually protect the mothers in cases of abortion (the child of course is still a tragic victim.)  What Planned Parenthood DOES support is the new law in California that seeks to allow the creation of more Kermit Gosnells by removing the requirement that the life ending procedure can be done by non-doctors.

California: anti-science and anti-women.

Obamacare’s Secret $1 Abortion Surcharge

Congressman Christopher Smith (R-NJ), joined by Reps. Dianne Black (R-Tenn.), Dan Lipinski (D-Mich.) and many others, introduced the “Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act” (H.R. 3279) yesterday to address how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), more well known as ObamaCare, currently mandates that insurance companies that are part of the law’s state exchanges not disclose whether they pay for elective abortions until enrollment.  Rep. Smith’s legislation would make sure that insurance companies will no longer be able to hide whether their plans cover abortion and will charge enrollees a $1 monthly abortion surcharge.

Researchers at the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) found evidence of the utter lack of transparency regarding abortion coverage.

If you recall when Obamacare was passed then Senator Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.) made a “grand bargain” that supposedly would halt or slow abortion coverage.  Most saw it for what it was, an excuse for those who claim to be pro-life to instead vote for the taxpayer funding of abortion legislation called Obamacare.  Shortly after the vote Senator Barbara Boxer helped to clarify something we already knew, the language crafted by then-Senator Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will use government funds to pay for abortions.

As reported then by Catholic California Daily:

Boxer, who has received a 100% approval rating from groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood year after year since her election to the Senate in 1992, had been a featured speaker at an abortion-rights rally in Washington, D.C., just weeks before she became involved in the ‘abortion compromise.” Following her decision to agree to the Nelson language, groups like the National Organization for Women, the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus and the National Institute for Reproductive Health issued blistering criticism of the senator. National Institute for Reproductive Health president Kelli Conlin said the Senate bill “has sold out women” and described its as “”unconscionable.”

But not to worry, Boxer told McClatchy News Service. Boxer, reported McClatchy, “said it’s only an ‘accounting procedure’ that will do nothing to restrict [abortion] coverage.”

It is good to see at least one supporter of the law can be honest.

Commemorating Nellie Gray’s Work

One year ago on August 13, 2012, Nellie Gray, foundress of the March for Life and pioneer of the pro-life movement, went home to be with God. On this, the first anniversary of her death, the March for Life is inviting local pro-lifers to join us for a mass in her memory at the Blessed John Paul II Shrine August 13, 2013, at 11:30 am.

Additionally, we are asking all pro-lifers worldwide– those who have (and have not) participated in the March for Life – to do something beautiful for life (something small!) and post it on facebook and twitter with the hashtag #marchforlife. This act could be a prayer, an act of charity, a donation to a pro-life group, praying in front of an abortion clinic, etc.

For those who may not have known Nellie Gray, following the Supreme Court decisions in Roe verses Wade and Doe verses Bolton in 1973, she retired from her federal career and dedicated the remainder of her life to the protection of pre-born babies. With the help of others, Nellie founded the March for Life, and coordinated the peaceful protest right out of her Capitol Hill townhouse for the next 39 years. Until her death on August 13, 2012, Nellie never stopped advocating for the preborn. Nellie was described by Cardinal Sean O’Malley as the “Joan of Arc of the pro-life Movement.”

Today, the March for Life is the largest Civil Rights event in the world. The number of people who have traveled to Washington over the past 40 years to participate is in the millions. There have been countless stories of the young prolife activists who were “born” out of the March for Life, and are now changing the face of the pro-life debate. The March for Life is the engine of the prolife movement and we are all indebted to Nellie Gray.

If Nellie were here today, she would not want to be praised for her work; rather she would want everyone to do something concrete that will help to build a culture of life. Please consider making August 13 a special day for building a culture of life, and commemorate Nellie’s work by doing something in her memory.

Here are a few ideas:

1.      Pray: Organize a group to pray for the end to abortion in front of a local abortion clinic.

2.      Advocate: call or write a letter to your member of Congress and ask him or her to support prolife laws which recognize the humanity of all people from conception to death.

3.      Write: a letter to the editor of your local news paper about the value of life, your experience at the March for Life, or the atrocity of abortion.

4.      Volunteer: at a local pregnancy resource center, there is nothing more prolife than helping pregnant mothers and their babies.

5.      Share this video about Nellie and her work at the March for Life!

Then, post it to facebook and tweet about it: #marchforlife.  Email us at info@marchforlife.org , and let us know what you did to commemorate Nellie Gray and her heroic work, and we may feature it on our website or on our social media!

How Pro-Life is Notre Dame?

I believe that Notre Dame is a very pro-life campus!

Unfortunately, Notre Dame is often pinned as being “not pro-life” because the University, unfortunately, gave an honorary degree to the most pro-abortion President in the history of the United States, Barack Obama.
