Annual Event on National Mall Moving Ahead as Scheduled

Washington, D.C. —  The March for Life Education & Defense Fund announced today that the 43rd annual event is scheduled as planned. The March has gone on through rain, snow, sub-freezing temperatures and more as the solemn day of the anniversary of Roe vs.Wade and will do so again tomorrow. While weather reports indicate a major snow storm barring down on the nation’s capital late in the afternoon, the event starting on the national mall at noon Friday will not be cancelled.

“Tens of thousands of people from across the country have traveled to Washington for this massive event and we ask participants to use their best judgement as to whether they should come in person or watch on TV,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life.  “We are very concerned for people’s safety and want everyone to be cautious.  However, the pro-life community is also concerned for the safety and well-being of the innocent, unborn in the womb. This movement to end abortion in this country is bigger than us and it is bigger than a weather event. This is a cause that is worth our best efforts and dedication, despite difficult circumstances.”

This year’s March for Life Rally on Capitol Hill will begin at 12:00 noon on January 22 near the Washington Monumen and will feature a diverse line-up of speakers including leaders in business, government, athletics and the arts. Featured speakers including businesswoman Carly Fiorina, former Baltimore Raven and Super Bowl Champion Matt Birk, and US Senator Joni Ernst, among many others.

The March Rally at noon at 14th and Constitution Avenue, and through social media using the hashtag #WhyWeMarch.” EWTN Global Catholic Television Network will be broadcasting live and providing full coverage of the March, which can be streamed online for any who cannot attend.

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund is available for commentary. This year’s march will be open to the press, and radio shows hoping to participate should RSVP by contacting Ryan Hughes at RHughes@SBPublicAffairs.com or (703) 739-5920.

I Can’t Imagine My Life Without Him

Guest blog post by Autumn Williams

My mind was set on abortion. Finding out I was pregnant a week before leaving for college was devastating. I was mad at my boyfriend, my parents, myself, this baby. Most of all, I was angry with God, for taking away my hard work, my freedom, college, and my reputation. I had a 5 year plan and I wasn’t going to let it get away from me that quickly.

At just 17, I found my world crashing down in front of my eyes. The life I once hoped for was non-existent. The fear of losing so much was the only thing driving me towards taking the easy way out. Telling myself over and over that I was in control of my life, not God, me.

I was sure I’d only be a couple of weeks along; it would be easy to go through with the procedure if that was the case. As I lay on the ultrasound table I was sure not to look as the technician was scanning, I just wanted it to be over, and the only thing in my mind was my 5-year plan. The nurse asked me if I wanted to know the gender. Before I could answer, or question what she was talking about she slowly turned the screen and she said, “It’s a boy”. My eyes fixated on the baby’s profile, a boy, my son. I was six and a half months pregnant, 17 years old, and thrown into the will of God and his 5-year plan.

12544257_10153875141401118_1485272291_oTo this day, I thank him every day for finding out when I did, it saved my son’s life. I couldn’t imagine a life without him. I want to represent hope in a teen’s crashing world. After defying the odds and graduating college, I decided to start a pregnancy center that would service only teen parents. Two percent of teen mothers will graduate college before the age of thirty. I was still a statistic, but I was two percent.

We live in a society where teen pregnancy is recognized but not acted upon. Two Percent Project will be a nonprofit resource center, based out of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, geared towards the success of teen parents. We will strive to empower young girls and boys to live lives of self-respect and self- sufficiency. Two Percent Project will be a unique center where we recognize all responsible participants of a teen pregnancy. A majority of teen pregnancy support programs solely assist mothers, with little or no support programs for teen fathers or any other individuals who are affected by teen pregnancy (e.g. Family members, grand-parents, and teachers). We at Two Percent Project recognize the importance of positive paternal involvement despite a cultural narrative writing fathers out of the picture.

God’s 5-year plan consisted of love; endless love that I am proud to say isn’t limited to five years. I was still able to finish college, get the job of my dreams, and meet new lifelong friends, all with my son, side by side, hand in hand, and heart by heart, and we have forever to go.

Pitts to Receive March For Life Achievement Award at 34th Annual Rose Dinner

Washington, D.C. — The March for Life 2016 is fast approaching, and the March For Life Education & Defense Fund will be pleased to award Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) with the inaugural March for Life Achievement Award at the 34th annual Rose Dinner on January 22nd.

Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) will be retiring after twenty years serving his district and the country.  Congressman Pitts has been an example for all Members of Congress as a staunch pro-life leader, willing to work quietly behind the scenes in addition to courageously leading the way publicly.  Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, praised the congressman.

“We are pleased and honored to present the March for Life Achievement Award to Congressman Joe Pitts,” said Mrs. Mancini. “The pro-life movement will be losing a true leader in Congress with the retirement of Congressman Pitts. We praise his Leadership as head of the Values Action Team, a coalition of pro-family Members, and as Chair of the Health Subcommittee in Energy and Commerce. We are also deeply grateful for the example he has set for other Members of Congress in approaching his position with courage and humility.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v.
