Congress must Defund Planned Parenthood
New Video Proves Investigations into the Misuse of Taxpayer Money Necessary, But Not Enough |
Washington, D.C – As more videos continue to surface that expose Planned Parenthood’s egregious organ harvesting practices and blatant disregard for the dignity of the human person the time is now for Congress to stop using taxpayer funds to support the organization. Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, is calling on Congress to divest from the organization at all levels of government and to lead an investigation into the organization’s horrific practices.
“The release of videos by the Center for Medical Progress has continued to expose the true practices of Planned Parenthood, along with their complete disrespect for and undignified treatment of human life. The practice of harvesting and selling baby parts is nauseating and illegal. No American should be forced to participate in this unsettling practice through taxpayer funding.” A new undercover video released Tuesday by the Center for Medical Progress shows a Planned Parenthood executive discussing possible prices for intact fetal specimens. In the video, actors posing as buyers ask Dr. Mary Gatter, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Medical Directors’ Council, what she would expect for intact tissue. The new video comes on the heels of a recent one that CMP released in which Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, describes over lunch how she conducts abortions to preserve fetal organs like the heart, lungs and liver. That video has generated a torrent of criticism from pro-life lawmakers, who are calling for an investigation into the practices. “Americans are disgusted by what they’ve witnessed on these videos. Congress, state legislatures and city governments must act to bring to an end all federal funding of Planned Parenthood,” Mrs. Mancini added. Planned Parenthood commits close to 330,000 abortions every year. In their 2013-2014 report Planned Parenthood stated their total revenue was over $1.3 billion. 46 percent of that revenue came from federal, state and city governments. Though they claim non-profit status they made a profit of $127.1 million during that same period, some of which was profit from trafficking of organs of unborn babies. The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion. |
